"WHEN I WAS YOUNG"
 JULIE DRISCOLL, BRIAN AUGER
AND THE TRINITY

When I was a young girl I used to seek pleasure
When I was a young girl I used to drink ale
Right out of the alehouse and into the jailhouse
Right out of the barroom and down to my grave
Come, mama - come, papa - sitting beside me
Come, mama - come, papa - pity my case
Cause my head it is aching, my heart it is breaking
My body salvated and I"m bound to die
Go send for the preacher to come and pray for me
Go send for the doctor to heal up my wounds
Cause my head it is aching, and my heart it is breaking
My body salvated, and Hell is my home

I want three young ladies to bear up my coffin
I want three young ladies to take me along
You know that I want them to carry a bunch of white roses
To lay on my body, as I pass - oh, Lord

One morning in May
I spy this young lady, all clad in white linen
All clad in white linen and cold as clay

"OLD HOTEL"
VIC CHESNUTT

I can see my old hotel
Down amongst the smells
I'm up above that ancient city river
It's filtered by my lousy liver
It's filtered by my wilted lily liver
I can see my old hotel
It ain't even a hotel
5am there came some sleet or hail
It was signal taps on the brave window
Solemn taps on the wavy window
I can see my old hotel
Hear those old touristy bells
Soon I'll be down the hill shopping
Giddy like a tipsy Mary Poppins
Giddy like a tipsy Mary Poppins
I can see my old hotel
It ain't even a hotel
I'm scheduled to ride the rails
If I wished to stay on this tower
Things would derange given just another hour

“SHARING A GIBSON WITH
MARTIN LUTHER KING, Jr.”
LAMBCHOP

All the leaves have turned to leather
I have lost faith in the spring
Withered like a dark balloon
Oh, I hear no robin sing

Ushered with the shower still
Oh, the rain falls off the leaves
And a rim of shady light
It forms these patterns on my hands

I can see your ring
Is it camouflaged or etched
Tell the king
To me this errand sent

To call such a hole
In the kingdom of the Lord
That we are afraid
Where there is no fear

Oh, he fell into a slumber
And did not wake until the dawn
To see a band of orange clouds
Cross the middle of the sky

Oh, he got into a fluster
He felt a tightening in his leg
With such finesse he waived a hornet
From a wine glass

And tiny fluffs of the feathered life
And you wander forth with your insolence and wine
To your fruitless mourn to them that cannot hear
And what the fuck am I doing here?

In the ghettos of Chicago
Amid the poverty and despair
Inside the game hens
Were the giblets in a plastic bag

A cocktail which consisted
Of his gin and her vermouth
Garnished together with the pearl onions
Dying eyes gleamed forth their ashy light

Tiny fluffs of the feathered life
And you wander forth with your insolence and wine
To your fruitless mourn to them that cannot hear
